Sub-micron, roundness below 0.3 μm
Hydrostatic Spindles with Built-in Motor
Hydrostatic bearings with the motor built into the spindle. The oil film carries the shaft with no metal-to-metal contact, which is what makes sub-micron roundness repeatable shift after shift. A built-in motor removes the coupling and its alignment error, at the cost of a more involved installation than a direct-coupled unit. Requires a hydraulic power unit.
